The kanji is most often pronounced 'dan' or 'tan'. Means Sandlewood or Cedar but not always. Don't know why the hiragana 'ta' and 'n' appear before and after the kanji. Another reading for it is mayumi. Funnily enough, this kanji, with the kanji for house or family after it, means danka - Buddhist follower.
Wonderful series : )
Thanks!
